Permanent marker tends to be permanent. You may want to try a solvent based cleaner as a last ditch effort. Rubbing alcohol may work. Test in a hidden area first for color fastness in your car and clothes. I worked with a solvent last night that said it was fabric safe and would remove marker from uph and carpet. If you go to your local home improvement store and explain to them your problem. They should be able to direct you towards a good solvent cleaner. Thats the main thing to remember water based cleaners are not going to work.
But as stated before permanent marker may not come out...
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Try letting it set for a day or two in a strong stain remover (shout) and then washing it in cold water. It may not come completely out the first time. You may have to do it again. Whatever you do, don't put them in the dryer until the sharpie comes out!

i would take it to a cleaner for a professional opinion. if it can't be removed, could you put a patch over it, or a lace panel (check out behnaz sarafpour's jeans at style.com) or maybe you could use the same marker to make some type of abstract design, or try embroidering or beading over it. or you could try dying the whole pair of pants black.

you can kiss them pants bye bye! Sharpie is pretty permanent but you can always try a stain remover and wash in cold water. It might take it out a little at the time....

im truly sorry about this... unfortunately there is no way to get that out and depending on the color of your pants if you wash it the it runs and if it doesnt do that it will fade to a nasty purple color. also goo gone has worked but that all i know. if I find any information on how to get it out i will tell you. but i dont kno any idea to get rid of it.

take them to a dry-cleaners as soon as possible. tell them what happened. they will probably be able to get it out. i once got wood stain on a cotton sweater and they got that out even after it dried.

try shout and different things like that.. .if it doesn't work, either start a new style or throw it out.. It is all part of the joys of having a kid....

You can try hairspray. That sometimes works with ink.
