Our local Tesco warehouse have just made 90 employees redundant and employed Eastern Europians to do their jobs paying them £3 an hour.
I feel Tesco should be boycotted. Does anyone agree?

The new workers are employed by an agency. Tesco employ the agency.

Tesco is fast becoming the Wal-Mart of the UK. Through aggressive pricing and cheap labour, Wal-Mart have destroyed hundreds of American high streets and pulled hundreds of thousands of people into poorly paid and insecure jobs. The UK should be very concerned.

Is this true? If the employees where made redundant and then replaced in the same place with people doing the same job this is illegal. As is paying people only £3 an hour. I doubt a multi-national such as Tesco would open themselves up to that kind of trouble.

I don't know about a boy cot but I sure dislike the staff pushing me out of an Isle when I am shopping just so that they can fill delivery orders or load up a shelf. The cleaners don't give a damn either I lost count of the number of times I have had to dodge a wet mop or electric polisher or been the only one at the meat counter and refused service by the assistant until I took a numbered ticket.
Tesco wants to get their act together, customers keep them in profit not disrespectful staff

How are they getting away with paying them £3 per hour, the minimum wage applies to everybody doesn't it, unless they are 16 and in any case this is the amount they could pay to english 16 year olds. A bit confused. But I say boycott Tescos anyway as they are robbing b.stards

This cannot be true.
there is a minimum wage in Britain that applies to EVERY employee.
They are not allowed BY LAW to make people redundant for no reason and immediatley employ someone to do the same job.
Are you certain of your facts?
Perhaps a little more explaination as to how they have managed this without getting into trouble?

Yikes! £3 an hour! That's horrible and making all those other workers redundant, terrible!
I rarely do Tesco anyway so they won't notice if I boycott.

that's disgusting, but isn't that across the board i mean apart from other eastern Europeans invading the polish seem to be taking positions at extortionate rates an hour and then there's the companies who use call centres abroad to save money it never end that's probably why we have a huge immigration problem as they are the ones desperate to take on low paid jobs
The government let it happen and hope we dont find out

Thats silly rumour, they are not allowed to do that by law and would soon be fined very heavily. EU law states ALL workers are subject to the minimum working wage regardless of origin. It could well be the 90 were useless

Probably yes, but get in touch with your local newspaper to have that story in the papers, its illegal to pay anyone less than the minimum wage these days, they are breaking the law on both counts, I prefer Asda price myself.

tesco has got rid of more than just 90 workers. tesco, in the recent years, has got the monopoly of newsagents making many families bussiness to shut down or be taking over by this money grabbing company. it is about time people were aware of what they are doing for our society.
