As best I can understand Cailin, they are in the bail bond business. What that means is that they guarantee someone's appearance at a court date for a percentage of the stated bond. If they don't appear, then the bondman has to pay the total bond set.
For ex, bail is set for $500. So you get a bondsman to put up bail for $50. You don't show, so the bondsman is on the hook for the total $500.
They make money by charging you to post the bond - the $50. But the trigger is that they could be forced to pay the full $500 if you don't show up. So there is great incentive for them to track you down if you miss an appearance.

So these criminal have to post a certain amount of money called "bail" meaning they will show up to their court date and then get their bail money back. Since these guys Dog are catching skipped out on there court date they don't get their bail money back, but when Dog brings them in he gets to keep that bail money, or at least a big part of it.

oh i love that show! - when someone is bailed from custody a security is signed and posted by a 2nd party , this normally comes in the form of cash. if someone fails to appear on the security it is the responsibility of the co signing party that they should have shown up. the money from the security is put against a warrant for their arrest which is signed and made available to bail bondsmen and they get the people - when they bring them in they get the money on the warrant

I'm not positive, but I believe that when people are bonded out they give 10% of there bond to the bailbondsman as a fee for the him putting up the rest of the money.

ok.... bounty hunters.... love dog so i know about this.... people who lets say skip out, and dont show for court, have a "bounty on their head" and the bounty hunters go get them and they get paid for bringing them in. if they dont bring them in and the other party doesnt pay for the bond, then dog has to pay for it...or bring the criminal in

The show is paying him so that's one way. I know his wife needs a total makeover; but if he loves it that's all that matters. He could fix his teeth though.....yucky!
