Looking for the best place to raise a family. Money isn't an issue. We are Christians but not bible thumpers, and would like a conservative area. Grew up in Oklahoma (the bible belt)

Considered CO Springs but heard there is a town near there with a large cult/witchcraft group. Don't want my children exposed to that. Would like an area with alot of trees and mountains/mountain views.

Have considered Evergreen as well. Would really appreciate feedback from those "in the know". We are retired so commute/job isn't an issue either.

Thanks in advance.

We want to be close to malls and normal chain resteraunts. Have lived in ultra small towns before and it wasn't a good fit for us.

We also would like the mild climate I've seen described of Evergreen

Most of Colorado has a conservative social leaning with the exception of Boulder County, Pitkin County, and a few parts of the Denver area.

I wouldn't worry about witchcraft. There are a few crackpots here and there, but there are more rumors than any real problem.

Nice forested mountain areas near Colorado Springs and Denver include the western parts of El Paso and Jefferson Counties and most of Teller, Douglas, Clear Creek, and Gilpin Counties. Other nice places to consider include Durango, Pagosa Springs, Carbondale, Parachute, Salida, Buena Vista, Rye, Woodland Park, Lyons, and Estes Park.

If you are interested in a mild climate, you should primarily look at areas between 5,700 and 8,200 feet in elevation. Check the websites below for the climate particulars for any specific areas of interest.

I lived in Evergreen some years ago. Evergreen has become quite crowded in recent years, but it is close to the conveniences of Denver. You may want to look at nearby areas of western Jefferson County and Clear Creek County.

There are good and bad people everywhere. I doubt that the group you're worried about is actually a major presence in Colorado Springs.

Evergreen is a small town. It's expensive and few (maybe no) poor people live there. In some ways it's safer, but the values of the rich kids there may not be the only ones you want your children exposed to. At 7500 feet or so, it has a substantially cooler climate. It's conservative in a rich Republican way, although a few pesky liberals live there also. :-) You'll want to check housing prices.

Colorado Springs is a small city, one which frequently is praised as one of the best. It is a city, and there are some poor people and a very few bad neighborhoods. It has miiltary and conservative organizations based there. It formerly was very conservative, but those pesky liberals have also moved there, and there now is diversity. Personally, I'd want my children exposed to that, since it will happen sometime in their lives.

If you want seriously conservative Colorado, look at Western Colorado, not the "Front Range" where those two cities are located. Small farm towns like Montrose or Delta might be good. Or your kids may suffer the "nothing to do in this town" problem.

Bailey is a nice place but its a really long drive to Denver during rush hour for a job. Conifer is nice too but it has the same problem as Bailey. Both of these place get decent snow and are in the mountains. Woodland Park is also nice but it's starting to become a larger city. You do have a fantastic view of Pikes Peak. Closer to the Springs is Manitou. This is sort of a strange town but its gorgeous and arguably has the best view of pikes peak in the state. The trip to Colorado Springs isn't too bad from here, 15 min from Manitou, 30 from Woodland Pakr. If it was me I would go further west than woodland park to like Divide or Florissant. I might be a little biased because I grew up west of Florissant but it really is a beautiful area. Florissant is really like a 45 min drive from the springs its not too bad. I don't live too far from Golden now and I wouldn't really consider it the mountains. Bailey or Conifer is probably the most mountain like town.

Colorado Springs is awash in bible thumpers. There is a Wiccan group in Manitou Springs (nearby) but they don't hurt anybody - they keep to themselves, which is certainly more than I can say about Focus on the Family (one of the favorite local bumper stickers says "Focus on your OWN Damn Family"). If you want "conservative" then Colorado Springs is for you - if you don't mind dealing with the military mind-set of the community. Evergreen is a nice community, but definitely not conservative.

co springs is plenty conservative. very christian. Evergreen is not so much but still a family town. have not heard of any cults in the either areas so i doubt you children will be exposed to that. Evergreen is far prettier but also colder and a smaller town but its got the necessities. i would personally choose Evergreen.

My opinion is there is too much military in C. Spgs to want to live there and raise a family. Evergreen is nice and the commute to Denver is not bad. It's a good thing money is not an issue though.
