You can't stop a cold, once the virus is in your nose/throat etc., you can only relieve the symptoms. Common cold remedies are ok but are only a temp., relief.

Drink plenty of water/ fruit juice, no alcohol.

Echinacea supplement will help, also, dose yourself up with plenty of vitamin c. If you can't ward it off then beechams cold and flu powders are great. Have a hot bath with a few drops of eucalyptus oil to clear the sinus's, or burn some in an oil burner. Hope this helps, feel better soon, and good luck on your date!

There is a product called "first defence" which is really good, it's supposed to shorten a cold or stop it at the first signs. It's a nasel spray I think! Also drink lots of herbal tea! Honey, lemon and ginger tea will help a lot too!

eat some really hot curry or chilli spicy stuff and wrap up warm so you can sweat it out. drink plenty of fluids and fgruit and veg high in vit c.

if you dont have time to do this, just think very positive and determined that you will not succumb to the cold. this has worked for me but it does not beat the cold but just delays it to hit you later.

Ditto the Zicam! I've used it too and it works! I think you take it every 3 hours, so if you started now you'd be good! It comes in a throat spray, a tablet and nose spray (and I think even a few more). Hope it works.

Depending on the type of cold i find using an over the counter antihistimine and drinking tea with honey and lemon works for me or relocating to florida or hawaii for the winter both work for me.

Sudafed. Even though you now need ID to buy it (thank you obnoxious meth-creators) I find it's the best thing to clear up a headcold without making me drowsy.
