Trying to say the United States has not harmed the people of the Middle East is ridiculous.
However, "they started it" is a childish response whether in argument for attacks on September 11 of for the attacks on Iraq, both sides use this argument and it is stupid, whether right or wrong.

Republicans maintain their conceit of innocence when they spout ridiculous notions like, "They hate us for our freedom!" Fact is, they hate us for our policies in their part of the world. If Democrats who recognize that reality seem to agree with them so what? If Islamic radicals said two plus two equals four, should we say it equals five so as not to agree with them?

Liberals concurring with the notion that part of the Middle Eastern conflict has its roots in American complicity isn’t spawned from a desire to just merely dissent against conservative opinion. No, instead this view stems from an endeavor to take a truthful look at ourselves.
Several questions that could be asked in reverse is why conservatives are willing to white wash and sanitize anything the U.S. does, regardless of how insidious it is? Why are conservatives willing to suspend their subscription to the moral values platform when it involves how we interact with foreign entities? Is their morality that relative? Why, in the conservative realm of thought, is sheepish conformity to anything the government proclaims concerning our aggression against other nations, considered to be patriotism? Since when has mindless obedience to government propaganda been an American virtue?
