Go for it. Dont let them stop you from seeking your dreams.
Start designing clothes now.
A girl in our high school is designing her own clothes and is taking them to a local store to help sell them. A good way to show your family how serious you are.

OK the people who are saying you can't do it and need to stick to the books are wrong. You CAN do it! Follow your dreams and things will start to fall into place when the time is right.
BUT!!!!
But you MUST also stick to the books!!! The school of fashion isn't just going to be looking at your portfolio! NO school looks at just one thing. They want to know there are some brains behind the fashion sense. You need to be able to give them, and everyone who will come after, the complete package!
So DO work hard! DO stick with the books! and also DO keep those dreams alive!!! You'll make it. LA School of Fashion and beyond!

The only one who has to believe in you, is you! If fashion design is your dream, then still stick to the books, as you will need lots of knowledge to persue your dream, not just fashion. You will need to know math for measurements as well as how to figure out the cost of producing one of your designs. And know the margins of mark up to make a good profit on you designs without out pricing so no one will buy. There will always be a demand for new fashion design. You should also take a class or 2 in sewing it, is always really rewarding when someone says, "I love that outfit !" and you can reply thank you, "I made it myself !" Just remember if you believe in yourself you will be able to reach your goals, just keep a positive attitude and the dream will be yours. I look forward to seeing the new line of clothing that you will design. Good Luck ! Have fun designing !

For now... yes, stick to books but you can still keep your dream close to your heart.
A good education, good grades will get you a much greater chance of a scholarship to LA School of Fashion, or any other college where you can study fashion design, etc.
Design some of your own clothes and maybe some for your friends... just to get practice. Don't give up just because it may seem to be taking too long to get there! Set your goals and think of ways to reach them. Never give up that dream! You'll thank yourself for your patience and determination.
Good luck to you and I have a feeling you will do well...

stick to your dream! don't worry about what other people say. if that's what you REALLY want to do, you will find a way to make it work when the time comes! never give up on your dreams, but also always have a sensible back up.
for example, i REALLY want to design rollar coasters. but i have no idea how to get into that. so another dream of mine (more sensible) is to own a book store or a pet store.
so while i still hold on to my first dream, i have a "back up" that i'd also be perfectly happy with.
but don't worry too much. since you're only 14, what you want to do could change a million times before you're 20.

Believe in yourself, be confident you have to believe YOU can do it, but you have to be smart and strong willed. It is a business and you have to deal with others that aren't so nice. It is a dog eat dog business world, fashion, you have to know what your talking about to sell your designs, you do need book smarts also but, stick to your dream....for now desgin draw your fasions out expand your mind.....but be smart about it

follow ur dream, girl. i want to be a writer. at first, no-one believed in me either. it's not that i'm stuid, because i'm not. but they just didnt think i could do it. then i went on this website for writers and a month later, they were asking me to write for them. so that was the end of all those lectures about stopping my"little hobby".
draw, draw, draw. dont be afraid to really get creative. and i hate 2 admit it, but our parents might be right. dont get so caught up in designing that u neglect ur schoolwork. i learned that the hard way. i'd write during class, and sometimes i'd rush thru a test just to finish. and besides, if ur grades are really good, then u can use that as an argument. designing isn't going to affect my schoolwork, mom/dad, and i feel really relaxed when i'm doing it.
i believe in u. i know how frustrating it is when ppl dont believe in u, or when they say stuff like, "thats so cute". but i totally think u can do it. what are u going to name ur designs? (so i can look out for them).

I'll bet some of the top designers and stylists right now were once told that they didn't have what it takes. You should stick with your passion and go for it, or you'll regret it the rest of your life and always wonder whether or not you could have made it. For the people who tell you that you can't do it, tell them that's fine, that you won't bother with them when achieve your goal.
