The spell and magic cards are almost the same when you think about the word spell and the word magic, which both when you think about it have the same concept, but is perform in different ways. When it comes to yugioh they are almost alike, but they have different functions. Like in a spell card you can control someone's monster and do plenty of others things and with a magic card you can earn extra points and kill enemies. So when you think about it they are alike in some ways, but overall they are different, why else would the maker of yugioh make two different sets cards that perform the same function, why not just name them the same thing? The reason because the maker want to make a distintion between the two spell and magic.

Yeah. They were always supposed to be called Spell cards but a mistranslation lead them to be called Magic cards. They're exactly the same as Magic cards. I think they were called Magic cards until Magician's Force. After that they were properly renamed Spell cards. Cards that say Magic card are not only the original version of many cards but are also unerrataed versions. So I advise you to seek the Spell version because it will have the most updated text and rulings.

THEY ARE!!! Those others that say they are not, well admit it, they're idiots. Magic and Spell cards are the same because UDE changed the name from Magic to Spell to accomodate with future cards. So Pot of Greed, for example though it's banned, is still considered as a Magic Card even if it says Spell Card.

Spell cards are the same thing as magic cards. Anyone who says otherwise has never played the game or read the rulebook.

exactly the same, like smashguy said all they didi was change the name because if you look at monster reborn (its banned, i know) there is a magic one and a spell one but they say two different things the old one(the magic) says Select one moster from your own graveyard or your opponents and place it FACE UP in attack or defense postion on your side of the field, but the spell on just says special summon it to your side of the field so it can be face up or face down, basically they are trying to cover up the loop holes

yep, at the beginning they were called magic but I think they changed the name to spell cux there is a game called magic the gathering and lets say spell sounds cooler, but if there is an effect that targets spells, its the same as to magic

absolutly, they r indeed the same. becuase magic the gathering sued upperceck, yugioh had to change the name.

all rules follow, spell r magics, sum old cards will still be "magic cards"

but they treated as spells.

spell =magic, magic =spell, no difference.

good luk in beating those who oppose it. =)
