Simply because we've got a 'muppet' managing the team. Another issue to consider is the fact that there's to many foreigners in English football, which deters home-grown talent and doesn't promote the existing English players talents either.

There are a number of reasons:
1 They do not appear to have any patriotism or pride.
2 We have the wrong manager. He does not seem to have any tactical sense whatsoever.
3 Certain people keep saying that we have the best team we have had in years. The players start to believe this when the truth is they are not as good as they think.
4 Certain players are not playing up to their usual standard. In this respect I would mention Lampard Rooney and Cole
5 You must have pace in the side especially up front. Since Lennon got injured we have not had this.Wright Phillips should be in the team and even perhaps Walcott despite his lack of experience.
6 I do not think Gerrard and Lampard can play in the same side.
7 Downing and Defoe are not international players. Defoe is not even guaranteed a place in the Spurs side.
8 Against Croatia the midfield players were too close together and passing sideways or backwards. The forwards were running back to the midfielders instead of making runs behind the defence. Wrong tactics and wrong team formation.
9 The players always say after a bad performance never mind we will do better next time. This does not happen.

We're not playing THAT badly - we've had 2 dogdy results... one 0-0 at home when we actually beat Macedonia away already (which some would say is a great result)... then lost away to Croatia when we had injuries to key players and the manager decided to adopt the wrong formation and the wrong players selected for it.
I'll re-iterate what has been covered already by the 'experts'. We played two strikers who tend to drop deep, and played with wing-backs who didn't push up far enough - so there was a lack of crosses.
Also the 3 central midfielders we picked didn't spread out... Parker didn't drop deep enough, and so the other 2 got in his way! In addition to be fair Carrick is a holding player... and Lampard didn't push up far enough to support the strikers - like WE KNOW he can.
Never mind Croatia... anyone would love to play against a team set out like that, and I don't think it's all down to McClaren... they are intelligent players most of them, and should KNOW where to run to make it difficult for the opposition. Not simply play in the areas they WANT to play...Rooney are you listening...???

So in my mind that's simply ONE bad game - previously to that McClaren equalled the record for the most back to back wins as a new England manager I think they said...?
He deserves a lot of credit so far... not only has he had the guts to drop Beckham and give us some flexibility again, but he's also asked Venables back - who in my opinion should have already been in the Job for 10 years after dragging us out of mediocrity in 1994. Venables and Robson have probably been the best all-round English managers from the last 20 years - not bad to have one of them as your assistant!

So....just CHILL. We have several months to get playing properly again, and 2 friendlies.
I'd love to see the following players get a run-out ASAP -

Gareth Barry
Leighton Baines
Matty Etherington (When fit again and playing well)
Dean Ashton (Ditto)
Aaron Lennon (Again once back in the groove)

These guys have a good work ethic and are good technically... give HONEST performances. Just the thing we need.

They are playing so badly because they are not playing as a team. They have some of the best players in the world but they are playing as individuals.

The solution is to get them to play as a team and that's down to the manager.

They are not playing badly, its the expectation YOU and the English press put on the team. Even when England had arguably the best manager in the world the press set up a honey trap which resulted in his expulsion. Get behind your team and support McClaren and wait. You might enjoy your football more.

too many star players, lampard and gerrard find it impossible to palay together, lampard refuses to pass if he is within 40 yards of the goal and some players that arent good enough, no matter how many goals crouch scores he will nver be good enough, he scores against teams like andorra, a good player will produce the big performances in big games and he as shown he cannot do that for his country,
during the 80's the barnsley team manager Allan Clarke took his players to work down the pit for the day to prove how lucky they are, i think thats what they need cause they stroll about the pitch like playing for england is a chore and not the greatest honour in the world

Because the players are vastly overrated. The England players in the Premiership play alongside the best from around the world, consequently it makes them look good. However, put the English players together in a team and the skill they ostensibly show in Premiership games, evaporates like water in the Sahara. Take Frank Lampard (please), who is apparently world class for Chelsea; as soon as he dons an England shirt he becomes like little boy lost.

Simply because they are not good enough, although the players think they are stars.

There is no passion in their game, and they do not think it is an honour to play for their country.

Their attitude appears to be, " ok lads, lets get this game over with, and hit the night clubs."

Their main aim in life is to swan around in flash cars and advertise hair creams and razor blades etc.

Think back to 1966 when they won the world cup, that team consisted of skillful players who were not being paid obscene salaries, and were driving normal family cars, but they did have the passion to perform well when representing their country, and found no need to head-but, elbow, assault or spit on their opponents.

Today's players are an absolute disgrace with their actions both on and off the field.

They should all hang their heads in shame.

I just think we lack the resolve of other teams. The pressure from the media cant help. It seems that they want to hail our national side , one minute and condemm them as flops the minute we get a draw! I also think the team fear embarrasment too much to play fluidly. They never throw caution to the wind bcz they cant face the shame of being beaten. this lack of confidence effects the way they play.Thiswill never be a team to challenge for the world cup until they , get some balls abt them. the 3 lions attitude of the venables era , just isnt there at the moment,
