Reportedly the fear is that mice being so small may/can climb up the elephant's trunk. Just like water bugs get into human being's ears.

They are not, it's just a urban myth. Elephants do surprisingly walk very softly though. They can walk past you're camp site in Africa, and you'll only know it the next morning when you see the tracks or the dung.

i guess it's becuz the elephants are afraid that the mice are going to enter their ear!! or evn worse, their trunk

Always thought that was more of a cartoon thing. In the way of urban legends. Maybe it has some basis to it, always assumed it to be false though.
