What colors match with gold?

Depends on what the gold is. Is it a shiny dress, a piece of jewelry, a matte shoe, etc...

In general, gold tends to look best with black, and colors with warmer undertones: peach, maroon, hunter or forest green, brown, amber, coral, etc... Sometimes the contrast in colors can be overwhelming, so stay away from overly bright and cool shades: aqua, icy pink, violet, burgundy, lavender, lime green, banana yellow, white, etc...

"Color Me Beautiful" by Carol Jackson is the definitive book on this subject. She says that gold goes best with the warm palettes -- "Autumn" and "Spring". She has one page each with rows of swatches in the colors in those seasons. The book was written in 1981 and has withstood the test of time, cited and refered to in countless subsequent color books.

Browns and autumn colours goes well, (orange red, green etc.) but you haven't mentioned if you're talking about a gold sweater, or for that matter gold jewelry?
