i'm a non-smoker and that i think of that is ridiculous. Why no longer have smoking and non smoking pubs? And whats even worse is the unsightly mess left via the 1000's of cigarette butts outdoors of pubs, while under the previous technique, you had a bar soft cleansing ashtrays say, each hour. the different day I had to record a bin on fireplace led to via human beings who smoke smoking outdoors a wellness center.

For the record, I'm in Montreal and as of this year it is illegal to smoke in bars. I'm all for the non-smoking bars! I'm a non smoker and I'm fed of coming home smelling like an ashtray just because I wanted to go out and have some fun. A lot of smokers are mad about this new regulation and are complaining about their rights, but I'm not convinced you should be allowed to exercise your right wherever you want if it puts the rest of the population's health at risk! Furthermore, if certain pubs allowed smoking, it would be unfair to the staff of that bar to be submitted to so much smoke on a daily basis, regardless of whether or not they themselves are smokers.
And for the record, for all of you who are concerned with all of the money the bars will be loosing, it hasn't made a difference in Canada! At first there's a slight decrease, but the business goes back to usual once people have ajusted. To all of the smokers out there I say this: my sister has a hard time not smoking when she's drinking or in social situations, but even she hates smelling like an ashtray at the end of the night! I admit it won't be fun for the smokers to have to go outside in the winter, but instead of seeing this regulation so negatively, why can't the smokers see this as an opportunity to quit?! It seems to me that the odds are more in your favour if you aren't tempted by other smokers when you go out.

Good Idea, then no drinkers would go to the non-smoking pubs and the nationwide ban on smoking in pubs will have to be lifted.

I choose to go to a nonsmoking pub or tavern because smoke really bothers my eyes and nose. However, I don't think we should get rid of smoking pubs because so many people who go to bars smoke. I just want the option not to be around them.

Or smoking rooms and none smoking rooms , as my father had 50 odd years ago in the pub that he owed. No common sense these days.

Was discussing the same thing (nearly) down th elocal boozer last night! Or maybe two doors, the one on the left is for smokers and admits them into a sealed environment. The door could even have a strikingly obvious smoking sign that looks like a toxis/ radioactive symbol and a govt health warning on the door. ... why not indeed

And how are you going to enforce such choice? The only way is to leave it for the pubs to decide, which is pretty much like what is happening now and the majority allow smoking!

Smoking areas and no-smoking areas, if possible. Otherwise, no-smoking. It works in Ireland, why should not work in England?
