I agree! I totally cannot understand what value the kids are getting out of YA, other than free answers which may or may not be right! (I mean, have you seen some of the answers? They're frightening in their inaccuracy!)

A lot of kids got older siblings or friends to show them their old homework or point them towards places where they could send off to buy term papers that were already written for you on a variety of subjects. Or they bribed the smartest person they knew to do their homework for them, often employing flattery and bestowing social status on the otherwise ostracized "nerd."
The more conscientious would spend hours at the library or combing through their parents' vast store of books, and they'd have a rudimentary and working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and/or Library of Congress classification system so they could get around in the library quickly. When I first got to college, they were in the process of switching from card catalogs to an electronic system (which later I used to dial up to from home using a terminal program, rejoicing in the fact that I didn't have to get out in the icy cold morning to use the library's systems on-site).
I am constantly amazed at some of the people who just automatically post questions on Yahoo! Answers without employing the wonderful tool of the internet itself to find the answers. There is SO much information available on the internet now that I used to have to pore over stacks to find that I can't imagine a child being stumped by something like an obscure quote, formula or historical reference. Instead of asking someone here first, why not Google it and find the answer yourself? Then, if it is unfindable, ask here! Those who automatically ask their assignments on Yahoo! Answers just haven't realized how lucky they are to have this vast Internet resource at their fingertips or haven't figured out how to use it to their best advantage.

I agree that some of them try to cheat through Answers, but equally, some of them look for tips and help, and a different perspective, which has to be a good thing. Before the internet, kids used to cheat by buying essays, and bullying people to do their homework, but equally, those who wanted information and to do research would go to the library, and ask advice from parents and teachers.

They did their homework with only reference books back in the day like I did growing up in the 80's and the 90's. That's before the Internet changed the homework landscape forever. You ought to know the rest of the story.

They asked their father and mom for help, from what i'm able to undergo in ideas. whilst i become in severe college, I asked Yahoo solutions for help on my homework sometimes, yet i do no longer positioned up my total homework project onto Yahoo! solutions and wait for the internet to sparkling up my issues. in case you basically enable human beings do your homework you're no longer discovering something. that is ok to ask for help with one or 2 issues so which you would be able to greater desirable understand a concept, notwithstanding it is not superb to ask the internet to do your total project.

well...I wouldn't worry too much about kids cheating on homework. If they cheat and get the answers without studying and looking them over to see if they understand them, they'll regreat it during the test. There is no Yahoo answers when it comes to test time. I guess people need to figure that one out themselves...

There was a time where kids did honest work and actually earned their grades themselves.
Now, they just say " Screw you! " or worse if you tell them to do their own homework themselves and they ask somewhere else until someone gives them an answer.
Not saying ALL kids do that, mind you.

The best way.
They read books that didn't have an "e" before its name.
They studied because they knew if they wanted anything in life they would need education, morality, Integrity.

Do what I did. Do not let them use the Internet. Unless you are willing to look over their shoulder constantly while they are on, ban them from the web.
