because
1) its orbit overlaps that of Neptune's and is at an angle unlike the rest of the solar system
2) many objects of similar size have been found in the outer reaches of the solar system in recent years. instead of saying that these new objects are also planets, it's easier just to say that pluto is not a planet.
3) pluto is not as large as it was thought to be. in fact pluto itself is about the size of our moon. there are many moons in our solar system that are larger than pluto. some could argue that those moons could also be planets.
the overriding argument for striking Pluto from the solar system is that many objects like Pluto were found in an area called the "Kuiper belt"
so you should be thankful you don't have to memorize 100 planets, just 8!
By the way , the new mnemonic to memorize the planets is
"My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos."
or
"My Very Entertaining Mother Just Served Us Nothing."

Pluto is actually discovered to be a part of a belt called the Keiper Belt. And all the bodies in this belt are like Pluto. So, if Pluto is considered a planet, all the other bodies would have to be called a planet too. This is quite silly. There are millions of them. Also, Pluto has always been very different from the usual characteristics of typical planets.

Because the scientists have formed a new definition of planets and Pluto does not satisfy those factors, so it is considered as a dwarf planet...
The factors are that the planet should not overlap the orbital of any other planet and it must have a considerable size...

They changed the size requirements to be considered a planet. Pluto is too small to count so they call it just a "minor planet."

because it was a dwarf planet - it was too small to be a real planet - or that's what the scientists thought. they thought that it was a piece of a nother planet that broke off.
