I woudl keep clear of autobiographies, they are boring. You need something with a plot.
Try some of the Cadfael books if you like medieval whodonits, they are good stores that are easy to real.
Or, try some of the Ken Follet books. Excellent story lines, Pillars of the earth is a medieval story about the builders of the cathedrals, a great yarn. Or The Key to Rebecca - his war stories are about people and not fighting

The time travellers wife - Audrey Niffennegger
Memoires of a Geisha - Arthur Golden
My sister's keeper - Jodi Picoult (in fact anything by Jodie Picoult)
Patricia Cornwell is good if you like forensics and crime.
John Grisham is good for a legal drama.
I also really enjoyed the Harry Potter books (yes I am a grown-up!). Cracking good stories !

Janet Evanovich is easy to read, she is funny and clever. She has a series about a female bounty hunter in New Jersey. She is a clutz and has more problems in her romantic life then you can shake a stick at.
I also like Nicholas Sparks - He wrote The Notebook, Message in A Bottle. He is an easy read also.
