So many answers! Yes, you are right.
"Natives" came over from Asia around 10,000 years ago.
Irish St. Brendan visited during the 900s.
Vikings landed during the 11 & 1200s.
Columbus landed in 1492 - thought he'd found Asia - and it became known throughout Europe because 1) The trip was sponsored by a government, and 2) the printing press was invented in 1415, making it easy to spread the word throughout Europe.
Europeans went nuts exploring "the New World." The Spanish were first to settle it, the Portugese were next, and French, English, Dutch, and Swedes followed later. By 1692, Britain "owned" the American East Coast, France "owned" Canada and the Mississippi Valley, and Spain "owned" everything west of that.

Columbus made four voyages to the New World between 1492 and 1504. He explored the coasts of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. He reached South America and Central America on the third and fourth voyages. You are right!

Neither...Columbus set sail in 1492 and actually discovered Cuba and Puerto Rico and the surrounding islands. He believed that he had discovered a new spice/trade route and was actually in India.
Not necessarily the best of navigation obviously.
