False. Rich women do not go out looking for poor men to mate with. Someone who stays in fit shape doesn't go looking for a fat partner. The most successful couples are good friends also. Friendship is based on common ground. The old "opposites attract" thing is based on not looking at the big picture. For instance my wife and I might appear to be opposites to the casual observer. In fact when we first got together years ago there were a lot of people who were very surprised. I had long hair, rode a motorcycle and was somewhat of a free spirit. She worked for a big corporation and was as neat and tidy as they come. Opposites right? Wrong! In most every way that really counts we are a lot alike. Where we are different compliments and completes each other. Now years later everyone who knows us says they can't imagine a better fit couple. We only appeared to be opposites. Her influence on me has helped "neaten me up". My influence on her has helped "loosen her up". We have arrived comfortably in the middle.

The phrase, "Opposites attract" isn't quite true. It should be, "Compliments attract". Along with commonalities, people are generally looking for personality and abilities that will compliment their own.
The most successful unions are made up members where what one lacks, the other completes.
Take, for instance, being involved in an artistic endeavor or the designing of a new addition to a couple's house:
One partner may be the type who works on one creative project after another, but is too caught up in the momentum of the current visionary undertaking to make sure that routine details are handled.
The compliment to a person of this type would be one who gets comfort from making sure that regular tasks are completed on time--who has feeling of fulfillment from making sure that the 'i's' are dotted and the 't's' are crossed. This would result in the artistic endeavor becoming profitable or making sure that the contractor for the new addition followed through with what he said he would.
In an instance like this (whether romantic or even business), the participants are like a rock and a kite connected by a string. Without the rock to hold it to reality, the kite would fly away with the first wind and be lost forever. But without the kite to look to, the rock would have no connection with the sky.

False, because when it comes down to it relationships are built on people enjoying the same things together. I mean appearance is one thing, but if opposites attract was so true wouldn't you see a lot more opposite looking people in long term relationships? I have a really unique sense of humor, and I just found a guy that matches it perfectly. He has so many of the same qualities as me and we get along great. As for my ex,we were total opposites and we ended up breaking up because we couldn't enjoy any of the same things....we lead different lives. Sooo false.

well, i think its true in some areas, my husband and I have the same background, from the same class, but our opinions are different... me-democrat, him-republican, we have totally different ideas on ALOT of things, but it makes it so interesting to talk to him! it would be boring if we thought the same things!!
