I've managed to acquire tickets to the sold out Keane gig at Hull Arena on the 17th October for my girlfriend (and not through eBay) ...but she doesn't know yet, I'm gonna surprise her on the day! :-)
As for selfless acts, I think there is. There are people out there (or not anymore...read on) who have died saving others, knowing that there was a chance they would die doing it...yet they still chose to do so....when you die you're not exactly gonna feel good about it afterwards are you? There are smaller things too such as just buying your loved one some flowers to make them happy, but when they feel happy, by and large you feel happy that they're happy....so it comes back round to you feeling good about something you did for someone else....
Good question, I'm sure it'll provoke some interesting responses...

The nicest thing I did for someone today...... I brought my boyfriend breakfast in bed!! Then I was selfish and bought myself a pair of boots..... but I know I'll have to tell him they're really old boots that I haven't worn for ages....
I think there is such thing as a selfless act but these tend to be the really small things that go unnoticed like making some body a cup of tea or phoning a friend when they're down. They tend to be the things that are quite spontaneous.

Bought a present for my son's birthday.
One simple thing that I did that completelly shocked a friend of mine was while I was driving. I came across a big branch in the middle of the road. I had some time to spare so I pulled over and carried it to the side of the road. I always try to do atleast one little thing per day.
but is there such thing as a selfless act. Of course, people do it everyday. Ever hold a door open for someone, let someone else pass in front of you on the road. You are not really doing this because it makes you feel good are you? Of course not. Most people have a sense of good in them. Even the ones we think are evil. I am sure even people like Sadamm Hussein have even held open a door open for somebody - no one is totally selfish or evil. Often the harm people like Sadamm do, greatly outweigh their good IMHO.

No such thing a s selfless act..I think you always get a little something out of doing things for others. Right now I am continually wiping my sons runny nose and I think that is really nice.

I've only been up 15 minutes, but, I have told my husband, " I love you this morning"......we say that every morning. It's a great way to start the day!!
Totally selfless act......lets see....if its to make yourself feel good, how can it be totally selfless??
Last Christmas, we had our then 12 yr old son buy with his own money and wrap Christmas presents for a little boy across the street whom we knew would get nothing, take them and put them on the little boys porch after they were asleep. We never told anyone that the gifts came from us. It was wonderful on Christmas morning. We were all peeking out the window, waiting on the little boy to find the gifts. I'll never forget it and I hope my son won't either.
We didn't do that to make ourselves feel good. We did it to give a little boy some joy on Christmas morning and, to teach our son that it really is better to give than to recieve. That morning was priceless, for the little boy, and for our son.

I let my mom take my baby for the weekend. She's been begging for a long time. It must be a totally selfless act, because I feel like sitting in a corner crying my eyes out. It didn't make me feel good!

I can't remember cause I never see anyone & won't see anyone till the end of next week, I would really like to do something for anyone, cause it makes me feel a good thing inside, if only someone would come by, I would try.
