It depends on who you ask. Some of us prefer hockey over football or basketball. I feel as though it is fully accepted.

There are many factors when answering this question. 1. hockey is a very expensive sport to participate in ice time and equipment alone can cost thousands of dollars. 2. Ticket prices to professional game can cost almost $100. per ticket. To bring a family of 4 to an NHL game could be very costly when you factor in food and other concessions like souveniers and parking. 3. The NHL has tried putting franchises in markets to open up interest but what they have done is put hockey teams in places like Florida and Arizona where it is hard to draw up participation for winter sports because there isn't much of a winter there. So the answer to the question would be that it probably won't because these factors are irreversable. The ticket prices are not going to go down, ice time and equipment is getting more and more expensive every year, and there would be too many players left without a job if the NHL folded five or six franchises plus they have leases on the arenas that they are using.

Plenty of die-hard NY Ranger and NY Islander fans here. Hockey is fully accepted as one of four major sports Only problem with hockey, however, it's not too exciting to watch on TV unless you're a die-hard fan. The game moves too fast for the non-fan to pay attention.

When did we invent football??The grass isnt around long enough to play a season of football?
Give hockey tim ein the US, eventually theyll come around, im sure they have some nutty fans, another thing you have to remember is that the population of the US verses Canada, we are slightly out numbered. The population of New york is approx 32 Million, the population of Canada is around the same. I thinks its safe to say that the number of fans in canada and the US are the same, sad but true. Eventually Hockey will get better ratings than poker, lawst checked poker was more watched than hockey in the US, plus they dont have Don Cherry to watch and explain it to them. hehe

NEVER...when the U.S. decides to call Soccer "football"...then Hockey will also be fully accepted in the US..
Unfortunately the U.S. doesn't appreciate REAL sport...
they freakin' show hunters and gatherers on ESPN 2...but they can't sign a contract with the NHL...the irony...yet OLN (outdoor living network) can sign a contract with the NHL...
Golf gets more coverage than hockey now a days

Hockey grew too fast into markets it shouldn't be in, Atlanta, Tampa, Phoenix etc. It'll never be the same sport in the US as football and it will never reach the enthusiasm here in the US as canucks have for the game. That said, the league would be MUCH better with fewer teams (axe Tampa, Carolina, Phoenix, Anaheim, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Florida, and a few others) and move more teams back into Canada.

Basketball and football weren't invented in Canada, though they were influenced by Canadians.
Basketball hails from Springfield, MA where a Canadian-born doctor developed the game at Springfield College.
Canadian and American football were actually both "invented" by the British. They are different games, but are similar because of their shared roots in rugby. The american version was developed at Harvard University.
As for when Americans will accept it... you mean they're not still on strike?
