I can only speak for myself. The answer is no. I think American culture is different than European. Americans are proud of our heritage and we do consider our lifestyle superior. This is not a true statement perse, but national pride has little to do with logic. Most culturally superior attitudes I see come from Europeans. I believe that many people in Europe still consider the United States a young upstart nation and they take umbrage with our expression of national pride. It is my opinion that people should concern themselves with their own countries and allow people of other nations worry about theirs, except in the case where interests overlap like wars. Lastly, when you are visiting another country you should in essence do as the Romans do. By this I mean you cannot visit a foreign land and reasonably expect that things will be like they are at home, or that people will go out of their way to accommodate you.

I can only speak for myself. Until I have lived in another country, under different laws and different government, I cannot give an infomed opinion on that aspect of a nation's culture. I have had the opportunity to meet people from many other countries, as well as study books on other cultures. There are particular aspects of American culture that I prefer over what I know of other cultures. But to say my American culture is superior, is a mistake. I enjoy learning from other cultures and I appreciate the differences. Because America is made up of people from a variety of cultures, many of our traditions were born from the traditions of other countries. To claim superiority over another culture is to show one's ignorance of the influence those other cultures have here in America.

What is superior? How can a culture be superior?
How can a culture where kids are having kids and men and women both wear thongs in the presence of others be superior to others?
A culture which mints money from violence, making guns which end up in the hands of kids, is called superior?
What is it about white people that they think they are superior to others? It is a seat they have made for themselves.
Cultures are different from each other and not superior and inferior.

How can you ask what American people think ? Do you suppose that three hundred million people all think alike ? I would guess that the vast majority of the people never gave a thought as to who's culture is superior to who's.
Since there is no way of measuring cultures, any argument one way or the other is meaningless.

Yes, subconciously I think americans tend to believe that the American culture is superior to others, including euroasia. This is a flawed notion only entertained by the fact that americans are secluded and neighbors to pacifist- mexico who is economically inferior (my imposed american mentality) and Canada who is social standard parallel the U.K. and the Swiss but aren't as gun ho about policing the world as America and its allies. I particularly take a neutral stand point on this question... as an african american I can't help but to be grateful of the amenities that come with democracy. But on the other hand there are aspects to other countries that are lacking in america ie Free health care (canada) and equal human rights pretaining to woman (turkey, morroco, panama) and progressively-forward thinking (South american countries, Belgium, U.K. South Africa, India, Japan, Amsterdam etc. Catch my drift.

Personally, knowing that our country was started and influenced by the european culture gives me a respect of the European culture while not undermining my respect for America

I don't think that Americana's think their culture is superior to another, but it is what they know and easier for them to understand, feel comfortable in and adapt to. So what may come across as snobbishness or disdain, could be nothing more than people remaining in their comfort zone.

There are differences, but no one is better. With America's obsession with certain things (like money), some can argue that the U.S. is "worse" than other countries who don't value materalism and capitalism as much. But I don't think any culture is "better" than any other.

I'm an American and I don't even think we HAVE a culture. It seems everything we are and everything we do is borrowed from somewhere else...mostly Japan and Europe.
