Lack of evaporation! Dirty filter, dirty squirrel cage fan, bad (meaning not blowing for any reason) blower motor or extremely low charge of refrigerant.(Leak) That's all folks!

Okay, here's the list of possibilities:

1) Failed blower (no air over the coil doesn't transfer heat from air)
2) Failed thermal expansion valve
3) Low refrigerant charge (or leak)
4) Dirty air filter
5) Bypass of a portion of the coil (see number 1)

low freon,dirty air filter,refrigerant restriction,low air flow (due to dirty coil,bad blower,duct problem)eliminate the easy ones first air flow issues and then get to the refrigerant issues.

It is possible to run the system so long with the stat down very low and low outdoor conditions to cause a normal pressure drop which lowers the coil temperature below freezing. there are low ambient controls you can use if you need a/c running when the outside unit is being run in the winter. not common in residential use

you should service your air conditioner, freezing of coils means that the gas is leaking from tank.

Get a Blow Dryer and Defrost the icy pieces and then clean it well....after that i would put a oil on the coils to keep from freezing again. i love the cold too...it has happen to me lol

mine was doing the same thing its needs the veans in the ac coil cleand if it does it again let it thaw and then get some good cleaner and spray and wipe it so the air moves better
