I'm from Edinburgh and if you want to see a bit off the dark side off Edinburgh
You should try the ghost tours
These take you to the underground part off Edinburgh town
One is at Edward Nichols pub that lets you go under ground and its quite scary lol i loved it when i went there is also another one at
st Mary street that shows you underground to and how we used to live
There is also the dungeon's and you get a good laugh
And you could try the festival as there are loads of shows and other bits off entertainment

Take a ghost tour. Try and get one of the tours that take you on the underground walks.
Or visit my local pub.......That's sometimes unusual and scary!
