This is to do with the human compulsion to accept people who are alike more readily than those who are not.
People with red hair are in a minority everywhere and are therefore an easy target.
There is nothing "wrong" with red hair in fact it is very attractive to many people.
There is a higher percentage of people with red hair in Scotland than anywhere else in the world.
I believe that this stupid attitude is a fairly recent thing and is self fuelling. Comedians haven't helped.
Rude comments about hair colour are used in situations where a bald person would receive comments about their lack of hair.
All red haired people that I have met have been lovely and the women highly desirable.
No one really believes red haired people are inferior in any way but people - particularly those with a low intellect - find it amusing and reassuring to ridicule those who have that hair colouring.
I wonder what the reaction would be if this attitude was directed at black, tightly curled hair!!!

People who ridicule others due to looks are plain immature and mean. They dont realize the diversity of human form. Any one who has a broader perspective of life will never make fun of anyone. There is no need to profile any one on their hair colours. What is more important is how good they are as individuals and as members of society and how kind they are and have a good soul which is cultured and compassionate. Ignore such people, their opinions are not worth a dime.

WE ARE? I am madder than a wet hornet now! lol Maybe it should be broke down, into categories as far as the actual red color. Their are all different colors of red. Carrot Top, Red Skeleton, Simply Red, Lucille Ball, Reba McIntyre, Maurine O'Hara and a lot more. All these people have different color of red hair. My hair is copper, like a new penny. Men love it, woman copy it, and mother nature did it!

Because society is sad? The gene for red hair is the gene for blond hair. This gene is regressive, so blond and red-haired people are becoming less common. In the future, blonds and redheads may find themselves much desired by would-be suitors. And no, I'm not a redhead, but my daughter is. I'm a baldy.

I think it depends on the shade. I'm brunette and when I see really dark red hair, a real autumn shade I wish mine was that colour, but when it's really orangey I always thing it goes hand in hand with freckles that I wouldn't like and it must be a nightmare buying clothes, finding colours that you can wear that don't clash, still, that's my opinion and it doesn't explain why the riddicule.

I have often wondered the same. My eldest daughter has red hair and she is beautiful. It could be though that most red heads are very intellegent people, so a case of jealousy perhaps.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I think red hair is beautiful. I'm thinking about the ratio between blondes, brunettes, black hair, and then red hair. I think red hair would be in the minority but the most outstanding and very special. Think of it that way. Red hair is unique. Enjoy it.

It runs from England's rivalry with the Scots when they were an independent nation. The English were constantly having skirmishes with the Scots. This also runs from roman times, this is why Hadrian's wall was built, to keep the Scots out of England.

Either through fear of something they don't understand, or jealous of not standing out and getting more attention.
Ever noticed how Ginger-haired women only ever seem to fit into one of two categories; 'Winner' or 'Minger'. I mean, have you ever seen a ginger-haired girl and not been able to decide if she was pretty or not - or thought she was only 'average'? They're always one or the other.
