Because the opium is a huge source of black money for the CIA, so that they can rum blak ops like 9/11 etc.

The CIA is the biggest drug dealer in the world.
The Afghani farmers make a pittance. The profits are made when the product is sold in America and the west

At the end of the Vietnam war - the US government had a big problem with the troops coming home. Most of their "heros" were herion addicts. They needed something and in previous wars it was cigraettes and alcohol - but this war was worse and so they used drugs. I suspect they still do in Afghanistan and Iraq and I suspect the US army is still doing a cover up. The opium also goes to make morphine - that is in demand in a war (more in demand). As it happened they didn't have to worry about the GI's coming home - most were OK - back with their families and away from the barbarity of killing men, women and children. That is not meant to be a critcism of those men - but of war - high on heroin maybe I would have done the same.

Then should we all use agent orange to kill all the crops around the world? I agree that opium should be destroyed but agent orange stays in the air for weeks and the winds will move it around and this deadly chemical will kill people or make them ill. There can be a better solution. Burn them? Then that will be in the air. Use special weed killers? Not sure but I don't think agent orange is a good solution.

Heroin - produced from the opium poppy - is the most effective painkiller known to man. What the allies should be doing is buying the opium harvest from the poor farmers as there is a severe shortage of diamorphine for pain releif in this country. People in the UK are dying in terrible agony because of the shortage. How ridiculous is that?

Conspiracy head on, Afghanistan is the biggest producer of heroin and I can't see the Western World giving up on it. Hate to offend anyone, but the Vietnam war was a drugs war rather than a war on communism.

All the top governments have their hands in the drug trade, think Columbia, Afghanistan. Wars are not just for the oil!

I fully support the troops out there though, they sign up for a job, and a job they must do. Just not right so many people are dieing in the 'war on terrorism', War to control drugs and oil more like.

Because the word "allied" implies not just the USA, like some countries remember the effects of the chemical on the civilians,soldiers (both sides) and the unborn.

Cos destorying the crops doesn;t solve the problem they just grow more. what they are trying to solve the problem by getting them to grow something diferent like grapes so they can be used in dry fruit.

The guys who are growing these plants aren't international drug lords but farmers who need to make a living and unless you replace that living they just going to grow more drugs. what other choice do they have?

agent orange, are you for real. Do you know what it does, yes it will kill the plant, but it will also kill everything else plant and animal. Sledge hammer and nut ,anyone?
