It's sediment, like mud and sand. It comes from the slow mechanical and chemical weathering of rocks that are pushed up by tectonic forces (or a minor amount comes straight out of volcanos). Sediment is carried by wind and water and, where it is allowed to collect and is buried, over time it turns in to sedimentary rock. And might be pushed up to erode and create sediment again sometime. Or be subducted down deep and turned in to magma and rise up again. Basically, everything is recycling round and around.

you may be surprised but it is actually earthwormsthey move the earth around a lot (because there are so many of them) and eventually over decades the architecture is covered by the soil. It doesnt run out because its just being moved around.

Dirt. It comes from outer space. Space dirt. If you stood still long enough you would be covered too. Except in New York City, where it is caused by pigeons, which is far worse.
I'd go for space dirt over pigeons any day.

Its dead stuff, decaying. Leaves, aminals, foliage etc.
It'll run out when the earth dies.

dirt. It keeps weathering and eroding form mountains which keep getting pushed up as the plates collide
