Its very simple.
Hardware means the electronic circuits, CPU, motherboard etc like your computer CPU.
And software means programs you run on hardware like Your operating sys.......MS Windows.
Currently you will see s/w market is in boom than H/w....so I suggest you to go for S/w as career instead of h/w.
C, C++ are basic lang......u must know them......abt JAVA.....its not necessary. You can choose diff options in s/w.
DEV:: 1. Java professional
2. Dot Net pro
3. C & C++
4. VC++
5. Oracle DBA
6. Linux
7.SAP
8. IBM Mainframe
those are major options.........which have lots of jobs in market.
QA::
1. Quality Control
2. Quality Analyasis
This is best if u dont knw many languages as C, cpp, java etc.

University has obviously changed since my day...! Then you went to the library and consulted books, journals, etc., read your lecture notes, talked to your lecturer, discussed issues with fellow students, spent long hours in the lab, and generally put a bit of effort into gaining, through hard work and application, what was once thought of as the highest academic prize, namely, a good degree.
And now you have the advantage of adding to these sources by using a computer to search for information using key words. Lots of info will appear - and all you have to do is extract the details you want and summarise into a relevant answer.
So don't you think you are doing yourself a disservice by asking others to do your work for you? Remember, one day you will apply for a job, and you'll have to demonstrate that you really know your stuff. If you haven't logically and diligently applied yourself you are going to be very embarrassed... and risk being unemployed!
My apologies for sounding like an old fogey...

The best help for you is to read avian's answer slowly and carefully. Then start thinking about why you are at university and how you should be trying to benefit from it. It was dumb of you to start this year's lectures without first doing enough background reading to have an outline understanding of the main topics. So stop being so dumb, and start working at learning, instead of expecting people to feed you knowledge.

You are first year B. Sc. and you haven't figured out the difference between hardware and software. I may suggest that you change majors!
