The larger ones are horribly mismanaged...but a recent charity rating listing the top 50 as to percentage of funds reaching the intended recipients listed Salvation Army and Shriners to be the best....the worst was Red Cross and March of Dimes.

history tells us that funds are often mismanaged, however due to charity laws these checks and balances are designrd to counter the mismangement of funds, but there are glaring loopholes, in the area of aviodence of tax, expenses incurred, and the final amount donated as a % of the amount given, collected. good people often give thier time and hard earned cash to charities that often are used as a private income of the echelon who operate the charity. Most are not mismanaged, the donation goes exactly where the manager intends it to go, it is just usually a different place than where you intended it to go.

I read a study (just now) that said on average 250 billion dollars are donated by individuals each year. Just Indidviduals. That did calculate stars charity concerts. etc.

You'd think that would be enough to solve every problem in the U.S. It's about $1000 for EVERY single person in the U.S., yet I have never met someone helped by a charity. Strange.
