I have been divorced about two and a half years now and I feel it is time to get rid of that name. Can I just revert back to my maiden name, or is there someone I have to inform or ask permission. I would be grateful for any advice.

It is legal if it was part of the divorce decree or you have it done legally through the courts system.

You can always go back to you maiden name. You probably should have had it added into your divorce decree but it isn't a big deal. You do have to go through the court system though in order to change your name back. It won't be done immediately but the process dosen't take to long.

you must legally petition the courts for a name change. Why didn't you do this when you were in the process of your divorce. This is something your attorney should've asked you and given you the choice to revert back to your maiden name.

You can go by whatever you want to call yourself....but legally until you change it with the courts/ social security, drivers license/ Federal TAXES....etc...you'll remain with the name you married into..

Thank GOD...I kept my maiden name .....I use it in business....Yes I have my married name attached NO HYPEN.

I am unsure exactly how you do it but you can go back to your maiden name. I think you have to petition the court for a name change because you didnt do it at the time of your divorce.

If you want to go back to your maiden name you have to reapply for a new social security card. The same thing you did when you got married. It is totally legal to go back to your maiden name. You just have to change it through Social security.

Yes, you just have to pay for it since you didn't change it when the divorce was finalized. No big deal. But you will have to go through the courts in order to make it legal (drivers license, social security etc.)

Yes but usually that's addressed during the final divorce agreements...but it's definitely doable it may take a little bit of money and filing some paper work with a court appearance, but its not that big a deal....
