I find myself offending them, to see whether they are bullsh*tting me...
They never are, cos I am awesome...but it is a good excuse to insult them a bit

I usually just let them know as gently as possible that they are not the kind of person I could get into a relationship and that I would like to remain friends unless that would be too difficult for them. Usually I end up with a really good friend out of it all.
I never avoid them unles they start getting clingy, which is when I let them know in no uncertain terms that they had known from the start it could never be more than friendship and I need a little time and space because I am feeling trapped and pressured.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.

It all depends on my feelings towards this person to begin with. If i feel the same way well and good if i don't (which is more often than not) i will either let them know how i feel or avoid them as best as i can. Some guys tend to think because the are fond of you ,you ought to feel the same way about them .How thoroughly annoying.

Yes.. If you don't like the person it can be very awkward to spend time with them, knowing they like you as more than a friend. You feel guilty because you know they have feelings for you but they don't have a chance in hell of being with you.
I guess I try to be as nice as possible about it to spare their feelings. If they're a good friend of mine, I just brush it off and act like they didn't say anything. If they weren't a close friend and the thought of them being fond of me creeps me out, I'd be more likely to avoid them. They'll take the hint. Just don't make a big deal about it by making fun of them to all your friends. It's best to keep it a secret and respect their feelings.

it depends whether i am friends with the person before he confesses that he is fond of me. If we are friends, then i will not avoid the person.

No. I appreciate being "let in" a little. It is not like I'm going to track him down and demand a ring or something.
