Urinating in the street doesn't exactly help their image.

man everyone on this forum is a complete idiot. of course french people dont smell bad, that is a stupid stereotype brought on by the americans. It amazes me to see how many ignorant people participate on this forum... and how so many people pretend to know about footy, but are actually completely clueless. Especially Rummans and RO35.

OK...here goes...I had a French exchange student live with my family for a year and in my experience, though he showered every day, he still smelled. We came to the conclusion that it was a deoderant issue. Though there really wasn't anything that we could say to him because that is particularly awkward issue to deal with. SO....that is my take on the situation. In Europe in general though, taking a full blown shower is less frequent than is done in the US. It is not that hygiene is not taken care of because it was...but in a different manner. And Europe does smell more in my experience.

France is a relatively large country and there are many regional differences. In large towns and cities people pay attention to personal hygiene, but I've noticed that in the country (one region in particular) deodorant doesn't seem to be popular.
In general, France is a beautiful and sophisticated country and I love to visit it several times per year.

From my experience in Europe, it's because they usually bathe only their head and hands daily and do a full body bathing once or twice a week. Many other continentals do the same...not just the french. This may have changed in recent years, it's been some time since I was there.
