No, real love is the basis and by - product of marriage. I fell in love with my husband and who he was. After several years, 4 pregnancies, and 2 kids, I love him even more. He is my partner in this life, the father of my children, the other name on my checking account. We have a history together that keeps getting better. Do we fight? Yes. But we also listen, look each other in the eye and say 'I'm Sorry' - and we mean it. Do we have days that we are too tired to even kiss each other, much less more? Yes. But we also have days when the kids are away and we totally make up for that. We challenge one another to grow, and we support one another if we fall.
If you want dinner for two with blind adoration; then get yourself a puppy. You'll have fewer illusions shattered that way...

I like your cynicism on marriage. Good expressions on the reality of love and marriage. But I hope you are not trying to breakdown the institution of marriage. Love without marriage lead to lack of responsibility and sets the stage for more children without concerned parents. Which makes love a poor way of making this world a better place.

Well guys have to completely disagree - married over 30 years and love is sweet - kids are no bother, money not too tight still have holidays and everything we need.

In fact marriage means all the above and more - try it some time.

I'd say you (and a few of the answerers) have a fairly limited or slanted view on marriage and what true love really is. Obviously you haven't found it yet. When you do....write a better poem.
