The middle class has been shrinking fast. Aside from the fact that many have lost manufacturing jobs and are working (if at all) in lesser-paid service jobs with no benefits, pay overall has not kept pace with inflation.
Except for the top executives: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.lawyers/browse_thread/thread/fff1f761efefff5f/efe20fd47897cb8f?lnk=st&q=kuacou241&rnum=3&hl=en#efe20fd47897cb8f

I too thought Lou Dobbs had several good points. My life has not changed much, but I'm retired with good insurance. My pension has not kept up with inflation, and I feel that I have less buying power. What I've observed is the loss of jobs that pay a living wage foe many, they have gone overseas. Taxes seem only to be lower for the rich. And what better defenses? We are killing and being killed in Iraq. And it is my belief that you cannot stop terrorism as long as there is anyone who is willing to lose is own life for his beliefs.

During Clinton many poverty & below became middle class. With Bush they had to make up a new class which is called Poverty working class. Which means the middle class is working for nothing.
I would be proud to have Lou Dobbs as my President.

I am middle class and a republican. Your question has merit.
I believe that I have it better now. My interest on my home is lower. Bank interest is higher. I feel safer (after 9/11) and I believe in what our country is doing in other places. Some things could use a little fixing but over all I think things are better than during the Clinton years.

Under clinton my family income decreased mostly because of tax increases. (That after the promise of a middle class tax cut)
Under Bush my family income has increased greatly mostly because of tax cuts.
clintons economy was built on the tech boom that was fake and fell flat on it's face before his term ended.
Bush's economy was built on solid economic policies. Letting the American people support the economy is the right answer. Letting government support the economy is bound to fail.
In the 6 years of Bush everything in the economic sector is up up up!
I consider myself middle class 50k a year. The democrats can't give us a definition of the middle class (Sen reid said this)
Higher wages and less unemployment are bad news for liberals... they mean that people are succeeding. Nothing is worse than success to liberals... except maybe success of Americans, which is the worst of all success.

In the 90's life was better for many reasons.
The fact that we are at a war that has been unjust from the beginning is an insurmountable strain on us. The waste of human life and money can be felt directly.
In the 90's we had better health coverage, a lower unemployment rate and a better standing in the international community.
We as Americans have had pride to call us that way. In the meantime, when traveling abroad, i find myself often in the situation to have to apologize for being American.
In the 90's the social services have been better and our children were better cared for than they are today.
Veterans were better card for than they are today. My father is a veteran and i experience first hand how he is suffering. He said that if i would ever consider joining the military after seeing what they have done to him, he would disown me.

The status of how well my life is going has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with who is in the White House. "The Presidency" is not synonymous with "Supreme Dictator of the Economy." The President is not capable of just snapping his fingers and making jobs appear. The President does not have any control over what job I have and how much I'm being paid. The President does not have any control over what rent I'm paying.
The truth is my income is far less now than it had been in the 90's. But I sure as heck don't blame Bush for the fact that TWA went bankrupt in 2001. I sure as heck don't blame Bush for the fact that American Airlines, in 2003, laid off us former TWA employees.
I didn't give Clinton the credit for the state of the economy in the 90's and I don't give Bush the blame for the state of the economy now.
I DO blame Bush for being legally moronic when he asked federal courts for an injunction to stop the re-counts in Florida.

Well, in 1999 there was a page of help wanted adds in my local paper, this morning there were 8 job openings and most of them was for skilled labor. That is a good indication how Bush and his tax cuts for the very rich has effected the economy, supply side economics has never worked and never will.

Successfully destroyed. Clinton helped the middle class by providing jobs, and creating a stable situtation within the country. What has Bush done for Americans (in general), lately?

Well, under Clinton, we had almost twice the income. My husband's job is suffering, and has been for the past 5 years or so.
