If the meaning of the word is close enough to "a person or thing that elevates or raises", then what about when it goes down? In other words what is the opposite of "elevator" in this context?

The words "elevator" and "lift" indicate our concept begins at ground level, or wherever we are, then go "up."

There is a concept of a device which descends to get what you want. It is the "dumbwaiter." This was a pulley operated device, installed in houses or hotels where the rich could send "down" for food, drink, and objects small enough to fit in the box or compartment.

Another one that comes to mind is the "laundry chute."

In these (last two), we have two processes, one which is quiet (dumb) and serves (waiter), while in the second one, something falls (chute).

Since the elevator transported you up to begin with. To bring you back to where you started it must be a relevator.
