My Latin suggested "gynophobia", and sure enough a search backed it up:
gyn·e·pho·bi·a (jĭn'ĭ-fō'bē-ə, gī'nĭ-, jī'-)
n.
An abnormal or irrational fear of women. (http://www.answers.com/topic/gynophobia) Close enough?

It is likely a fear of rejection, very hard on some people's egos. The solution has several parts. Rejection is never fatal, you will survive. Your discomfort is likely invisible and known only to you. Rejection by someone who does not (yet?) know you is utterly meaningless within the big picture. Start with baby steps and take very small risks. Smile and say hello to strangers in places where they are not at risk (store clerks?). Exchange a comment or two with someone who would normally make you feel shy. Some hate smalltalk while others take it as an opportunity to decide whether something more should follow. Do not make strong eye contact until it is welcome and normal. Small sincere compliments (I like that pin ,,,, etc.) break the ice. Remember everyone is actually in the same boat and rejection may mean little more than that the other person is presently involved or just not interested now, not that you are beneath consideration. Review and appreciate your successes. Plan to date at least 100 girls even if you find the right one on the third try. Be a good listener rather than an excellent talker. Women often want to talk about their problems not have you control and solve them all. Lead an interesting involved life to have things to talk about, especially people rather than engine parts, right? Good luck.

You're a downer. Your negative attitude telegraphs in front of you, and women perceive it. Women don't want to be with a downer. Well you've made your bed now, you have to lie in it. Do you get a long with this woman you're with now? If so, then you can make it work for the children's sake. If not, work out an arrangement and go your separate ways, children will suffer more from seeing their parents in a loveless marriage. Marriage counseling would be a very good idea for the both of you, and you should work with a psychologist on your depression and self-esteem issues.

it is probably just called low self esteem or lack of something to talk about. its common with people who think too hard/too much about every little detail. the easiest way to defeat it is with a little "liquid courage" (alcohol) to help dull your overly sharp senses... but not so much that you're slobbering all over yourself... not even enough to be buzzed really... just one drink to just loosen up a bit is all you should need. Don't turn this into a crutch though... in no way am I condoning alcoholism here..
if drinks aren't your thing, a smile and a "happiness" about you comes off well. YOU have to be having a good time before you can show others a good time.
the other thing is after being out of practice in meeting new people, you'll find it harder to meet girls. try making some new guy friends if its easier... then take the successes from that and modify those skills for meeting girls.

Hey, this is not a phobia; this is lack of guts to listen to the word NO. Look every one has their right to say NO..U too. Just don't feel embarrassed when some girl takes no interested in you. It's her problem dude. Be urself and be confident.
When you u talk to a girl ask questions. Girls love to talk about themselves and their doings. Best of luck.

It's not so much a phobia as it is self-consciousness. If you stop trying to be some way and become interested in the person apart from how she sees you, the fear will go away.
