I reckon that they are only fat and drunken cause the dart board is in the pub, move it out to a field and see what happens!! But in answer to the question I would probably say more a hobby unless they had to run up to take there shot each time.

Definitely evolving into a sport, now that the consumption of booze has been eliminated from the games on TV, and the players are entering the game younger and fitter all the time.

Television needs to be kept interested. That will attract high levels of sponsorship, and this in turn means prize money can be increased, and players will be attracted to the high cash rewards.

I've even heard there are moves to get it accepted as an olympic event.

darts is what u would call a recreational sport, they have leagues for beginners to proffessionals, its like swimming, or bowling,my parents used to be in a local dart league and they would play every friday night against others in the leagues and they played for 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes. about every 3 months they would have a tournement where leagues from all over the province would compete for trophies and cash prizes. so some may condsider it a sport id say its classified as a recreational sport.
its very competitive to those who do play and its not just throwing a dart at a board theres a pattern u have to do to play, double in double out means u have to get your dart in the double space to even get on the score board and someone who is drunk would have a hard time doing this lol.

well personally i think it's a sport as i play the game myself, simply because it's got an international federation who govern the whole sport, but in the same respect it can also be a hobby. i first took it up as a hobby but then began to take the game seriously as i became quite good at it.

take phil taylor for example... he has won 13 world championships now if that ain't accuracy i don't know what is??

Its classed as a game

darts
Indoor target game. It is played by throwing feathered darts at a circular board with numbered spaces. The board, usually made of cork, bristle, or elmwood, is divided into 20 sectors valued at points from 1 to 20. Six concentric rings, ranging from an inner bull's-eye to a narrow outermost ring, determine scoring. The official throwing distance in most countries is 7 ft 9.25 in. (2.37 m), though variations extend up to 9 ft (2.75 m). In Britain, darts is normally played in pubs.

I'd say hobby. Darts would be classified the same as pool table which should be a hobby. What sport could possibly be played in a bar? lol

It is most defo a sport. It is rumoured that it will be in the next olympic games. If you watch it on tv you will notice that drinking is banned and the majority of the players are not fat, granted they used to be in the 80's but not anymore.
The people who slag it off should try it and see how useless they are and how tough it actually is.

It is both. Professionals play this as a sport all over the world, but then it is a hobbie in most pubs.
