Great question! The answer depends on what state you are in and whether you are a low-income senior or not. For example, Experience Works is in Michigan, but is not the group that provides this service in my state.

Your local area agency on aging can direct you to employment services for seniors. (Some Area Agencies on Aging actually provide this service.) To find out the Area Agency that serves your county call toll-free 1-800-677-1116. Each Area Agency on Aging has professionals that answer questions like this one. You will most likely find the people there friendly and very helpful.

Area Agencies on Aging are funded by the The Older Americans Act and are one of the best kept secrets out there for seniors and their caregivers. If you call, and like the help the folks there give you, let your county officials know--and your representatives in Congress know, too.

Good luck and best wishes!

In Michigan, we have what they call "Experience Works" set up for people 55 and over. Check with your state employment agency, here we used to call it the unemployment office where people get paid unemployment when they are laid off. I don't know what it's called in Texas. I'm sure they have a program for you...Good Luck!
