Just alive, or still playing the sport? I think alive you'd have to say Pelè - just the consensus of opinion in his favour is incredible, it's rare for anyone to inspire that kind of agreement.

If you mean still playing, it's got to be Tiger Woods - incredible domination and scares the living daylights out of his opponents...

On a personal level I'd choose Shane Warne, because he's the best ever at what he does, whereas with Tiger it's not clear yet if he's better than Nicklaus. (For Americans reading this: He's a cricketer...)

depends on which sport but Michael Jordan is one of the greatest sportsmen... He cud even be a role model fer kids...
Here's a fact about his youth:
He was kicked out of the high school basketball team becauce the coach thought he wasnt gud enuff... so he went on training and practicing harder than ever 2 prove the coach wrong and its obvious he achieved it.....
In soccer, thers Pele, Maradona, Gerd Muller, Michel Platini and so many others...
