I saw a movie last night called "Boo" about a bunch of kids who go to a haunted hospital on halloween! It sounds cheesy but its good for a few jumps. The exorcism of emily rose is based in like an old farmhouse type place so could spook your guests a bit! And also sleepy hollow has a country setting and has johnny depp in it and christopher walken is scary as hell with his filed down teeth :P Dog soilders is another one set in an old farm house, and is quite funny with lots of good jumps. Oh and 28 days later is very scary! The hills have eyes is good too (the original or the remake) its based in the middle of the dessert tough. And the blair witch project is good. I think if you really wanted to spook everyone, you should get something that will really emphasise the fact that your out in the country, something thats appropiate to your location and make them think that every noise is something lurking outside! Maybe even set up some tricks or pranks that are in the movie, (like showing someone the video from the ring and making them think its real!) Like pretend you heard a noise, or saw something out the window! Thats what id do anyway :P

i keep mentioning the italian horror Suspiria. it's a cracking good horror but you have to be into that kind of film (and show it on a big tv with surround sound). The original Texas Chainssaw is amazing. Try the Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue, that's a laugh. Wrong Turn is fine. The Shining is a classic. Jeepers Creepers is ok. The Evil Dead 1 and Bad Taste are a giggle. Exorcist 3 is very very creepy.
You could always watch Halloween.
Have fun.

I remember watching A Nightmare on Elm Street at a Halloween party when it first come out. Part way through the film my friend told me to go and get a box of flakes out of the fridge. When I opened the fridge to get them there was a severed hand on a plate! Scared the crap out of me. When I run back into the other room screaming there is a hand in the fridge another friend who had been hiding in the pantry removed the hand and put a box of flakes in its place. Everyone freaked out! Ok I was only about 11 at the time and I know now it was only a rubber hand with mince meat in the end! ANYWAY.... enough of that! Evil Dead is a good film to watch, probably a bit cheesy now but it was good in its day. The Exorcist is a classic, scared me to death. I still can't watch it now! Enjoy your evening. Are you going to be in fancy dress?? It sounds like its going to be fun... can I come?

As the question asks for a 'scary' movie as opposed to a blood fest, I would say the original version of 'The Haunting' ( 1963 ), which relies on great atmosphere and tension rather than cheesy shocks and gore.

However, if gore is your thing then how about PJ's follow up to Bad Taste - Braindead ?? I watched it again this morning. It's a laff riot !!

:)

Wolf Creek will have you screaming as will Hostel and The Hills have Eyes. Saw 1 & Saw 2 are also very gruesome. As regards spooky i would say Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween.

Have fun and also a great way of keeping your friends scary is telling ghost stories in the dark. Always gets me spooked.

The Exorcist is an absolute classic and still scarier than most things ever put to celuloid. The Ring (original) also terrified me as did The Blair Witch (perfect for a secluded country location) which scared me so much I couldn't speak afterwards!
