well the 8th grade team isnt the greatest place to start out most of those kids have been playing for 3 or 4 years. so some ways to get better ar videos go to your local video store and ask them if they have any sports movies a good one that i recently seen with alot of drill and stuff was called "BALL ABOVE ALL" also if you live in a good neighbour hood then go to the local park and watch the guys play there watch their feet movement and placement on jumpers and crossovers. remember moving without the ball is a huge key. some of th best players do that rip hamilton and steve nash to name a couple and also if u cant shoot great work on your passing skill thats where nash and kidd KILL people is with their passing. or if your a big kid then work on your inside game posting up getting rebound etc...

dude it may sound repetitive but the best way you can improve is by practice. If you see really good competition on your basketball parks, try and play with them. You may (and most probably you will) get embarrassed at the start but that is just normal, you'll see your weaknesses and what you have to improve on, and also, with some time, you'll develop a go to move that has the highest probability of success, whether it be a post up move or a pull-up jumper. Once you see those things, try and develop them, all of these can only help you, but it all starts with motivation and the will to become a better player.

You must like to wait until the very last moment. No offense, but you should have asked this question last spring or summer.
The middle of October has always been the beginning of serious basketball practices and tryouts in the United States. The coaches at your school will have plenty of drills for you if you're good enough to make the team.

All it takes is alot of practice--if You go out to the Basketball court and try Your best everyday I'm sure the Coach will put You on the team.
Practicing lay-ups and even free-throw shots is a good start.

the only way of getting better is practice.ask some others who are better.but you also need to be a little high.that'll help.try to concentrate on the ball and try to find out where the others are to defend your ball and pass it to the rigt person.
