A forwrded e-mail is the same as any other e-mail.
You can use this to track e-mails..

Not a regular Internet email because the original contents may be changed by the person forwarding (or apparently forwarding) it to you.
In more robust mail systems (mostly used in companies) like Lotus Notes, MS Exchange and the such it would be possible to track merely anything.

No. Despite that fact, we still receive emails saying $$$ will be donated to a certain cause if we forward them.

Not if you delete the names of those who sent it to you after you hit the forward button.
