It is always easier to get a job if you already have one. In the past, I have been called at work by people attempting to hire me away. If you are under 40 it is not too bad in the job market. If you are over 40 and under 50 it is tough. If you are over 50, then forget it. Look for self-employment.

I think some people get too hung up on the age thing. I'm a 43yr old female and I just started a new job 6 months ago making more money then in any of my previous jobs. A lot of it has to do with the salaries that people request when they have years of experience. I've seen situations where some employers hire younger people because they hire them at a much lower salary then somebody that has 20 years experience in the same field. That may be one of the reasons people think that there is an age discrimination.

Even though age discrimination laws have been brought in, some employers will still try to get away with employing the younger end of the work market and omit anyone over a certain age, your local job centre should be able to advise you on companies who are actively seeking people of the 30 plus group and should also be making sure age discrimination isn't been abused by companies either, you have rights now so make sure you use them and don't be put off by discrimination, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose, good luck.

I think it depends on the job. When I got my job, all that was working here were college kids. I am over 30, myself, & my employer seemed MORE then eager to hire me. Although, I have been looking for a different job, one with better pay, I am having trouble finding one with my current status.

Agree entirely with Cubalishu.Covers it all really.Nothing worse than going for a job and you get some smart arsed employer about 50-60 years old telling you at 30-40years are to old.Its about time they were brought down a peg or two.Thank you labour party.

i think that it is easier to get a job at 30+ than it is to get a job -30. by the time people are 30, they normally alreadyhave kids, so the employer wont get caught out paying for maternity and paternity pay, and you more wiser and experienced, however, it is hard getting a job when you havent had one for so long though. so goodluck. but it is possible, trust me. my mum was outta work for 5 years she got a new job now. and she got a record now, but she still managed it.

Generally, someone who is over 30 will have had a good level of experience in their field. a younger person will make mistakes as a part of their learning curve. if i was an employer, i would want someone who has already made mistakes and learnt from them.
i think it depends on the field aswell.

I really don't think age comes into it. Experience, qualifications and just being a good worker comes into it. I'm 32 and only in my current job for about 8 months.

Yes, I believe they would look at someone younger first, even though both have the same qualifcations.
