Read, read and then read some more. I know that sounds simple but its the only way to improve, find books that interest you, or authors whose styles you find interesting to read and go from there.

Not just read books that interest you (and do that on a regular basis), but if you are into video games -- ever tried a game for the Nintendo DS system called "Brain Age"? It has a reading comprehension activity -- and it was fun enough that my disabled children were able to read the passages and did discuss with me what they were reading and increased their speed at the same time.

Consciously keep your eyes moving down the page.

Hit the first sentence, a middle sentence, and the last senence of each paragraph.

Never re--read a sentence. If you didn't get it, it probably made no sense anyway.

Try to read only what "jumps off the page at you"
, because these are the most digestible nuggets of information, and will stay in your memory better. Remember that you will forget 90% of what you read by tomorrow. Save time by only reading the 10% that you will remember.

try to keep left finger on the side of the line you are reading and look at the word and make impression of it in mind rather than reading one by one.
this technique is used when you are preparing for competitive exam and but otherwise try to keep finger on the left of line will increase your speed of reading.
