It will go back to barter, briefly, and then come back to money.
It pretty much happened in Russia in 90ies.

if the monetary system was abolished, there would be no status quo, the whole idea of a social structure would vanish and people would have to start trading there goods in order to attain what we wanted.
due to this, as ironic as it sounds destroying the monetary system we have all come to loath if we have none or love if we have plenty, would probably also make unemployment a thing of the past as we would all need trades in order to barter for the things we needed throughout life.
however, governments can hardly give you like a cow or something as statuary sick pay so it would turn society into a game of survival of the fittest and people would be forced into having as many babies as possible to ensure maximum output of their family business and to ensure they lead a longer life with somebody to look after them, much the same as can be observed in the third world. it would neither be better or worst as the problems come from the power hungry humans not the currency and yes we could easily survive and live without money, we are quite resilient when we want to be

Of course the barter system will essentially take over. However the question on a reset of the world and the chaos will be dependent on several factors. If the money system is destroyed in one fast swipe then chaos will ensue as economies (and companaies) relying on huge money savings or deposits will crumble. If the destruction is slow then it will be probably problem free as the time will allow people to exchange back the money for a limited time.

It first be in total chaos and panic. Then thing will calm but it will not make things better since. It does not change anything there will still be haves and have nots. The haves will be the farmer and fishermen since they have the important commodity food. Then the gun owners. Everything will go back to zero White collar workers and some blue collars poor. But it will never be better.
The law of the wild will be back. Probably the Barter System too.

For those who truly understand how to live well, it will mean freedom. Those who work the land themselves, grow and raise the food necessary for their survival, this will have no effect. When one reads about the depression, they often only hear horror stories about what people went through, when for some people, the depression was not a struggle at all. My family had one of the largest farms in central illinois during the depression. Corn, beans, vegetables, hogs, cows, chickens, etc. They had so much food that they hired people to work on their farms in exchange for food as well as hosted families a month at a time, feeding and housing them. So for those who know how to live independently, having the money system would be a good thing.

Money are based on agreement between people. It is no a system exixting independently. If agreement between people is destroyed we'll be really in trouble. I would say we won't be human anymore. Communists believed that society will be better off without money and substituted it with rationing. Believe me you don't want that. Your really don't want that ever!!!
Money are not God given they are a human invention and therefore are not perfect but I think the best invention of civilisation.
