You should call the RSPCA animal protection if it there again .
It might be an idea to get it relocated , before it either gets killed or bites in self defence
Blacks are not aggressive though they are venomous and will make you pretty sick .
Don't kill it .
Or place it in any sort of hessian the fibres go down on their lungs

Be cool. The black snakes in NC where I live are harmless and eat the field mice and rats. I am not sure if the black snakes in Australia are the same though. You have so many types of venomous snakes down there it is hard to call. Best thing to do is find out what kind of snake it is. But a simple black snake is not a threat, but an alliance to help control the pest population. I have 2 living in the barn about 8 feet long and they don't mess with me and I don't mess with them.

Hi there;

Sounds like you have come across the infamous red belly black snake. Very venomous. Please keep your distance. Leave the critter alone and it will leave you alone too. :)
Where you live, this snake is said to be common. Keep your pets and small children away from the area until you can contact the proper authorities.
Above all DO NOT try to remove or relocate the snake yourself. The red belly has a LD50 of 0.2! That means a lethal dose 50% of the time of 0.2 percent. Good luck dear.

Your description is too vague to really know for sure. Best thing to do is keep your distance and leave the area, or encourage the snake to do likewise. You're not Steve Irwin after all. If the snake lives there and you want to get rid of him call an expert.

If this snake has a red belly which you might not see...you have a lot to worrier about. It's a red belly black snake which only comes from your country and is the 2,3,or 4 most fatal snake around, it will kill you if you get bit. your country has more poisonous snakes than anywhere in the world! and that red belly black snake is just one of them. Call a professional !!

Depends...

Was it this one?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-Bellied_Black_Snake

Then it is poisonous and potentially lethal(could kill)

Most other black snakes are not harmful, but are hardly found in Australia (from what I know).

So its probably the first one...dangerous.
