Europe (and by extension the lands around it) are made up of many counties/states(such as the principality of Northumbria). Each of those states was owned by a noble family - they were given the title of the land. Nobles could obtain those titles, by war, purchase etc. According to each region, their was a greater title, such as if you owned the principalities in bohemia, you could get the title duchy of Bohemia (hence you might have four county titles and one Duchy title, for owning most or all of the land). Even larger than that, if you got enough land, you could get the title of King or Emperor (depending where you were).
Now these lands have been in dispute, empires starting and fading (like the Prussian empire, the Austro hungarian empire and the Ottoman Empire), as titles have changed hands. The empires have gained titles lost titles through war, land exchanging hands many times. England used to own a strip of land down the cost of France, until the French took it. Germany used to be futher west, with lands in France, but after WW2 the french took it. The principality of South Tyrol belonged to the AustroHungarian empire before ww1, but was taken by the Italians after the Germans lost.
Now this beings me to the point that the area of jerusalem has been no different. It has belonged to the egyptians, then the jews, then romans, then to christians, then to muslims back to christians, then back to muslims (changing hands many times over the years, belonging to the turkish, Arabs, Italians, French, English etc.) Eventually back to muslims for a few hundred years, now back to jews. All I am saying is that their are no heritage rights belonging to any group. The jews and Muslims have just as much right as the english, french and Italians do.
The land has last been taken by the Jews, they are in control, and people just have to accept it. Their are no right or wrongs, just as is. The matter is too complicated to find the true owners (the "true" egyptians have disappeared after the muslim invasion, no different to the romans dissapearing to the German barbarian tribes)
Europe two hundred years ago (in terms of borders) are completely different. Germany didn't exist - you had the Prussian empire to the North (can't remember what was underneath) - Germany as a state was formed 150 years ago as a merger of the Prussians and another group.

Israel captured those lands in the 1967 war, also known as the six-day war.It began when Israel launched a massive pre-emptive strike on three fronts. Israeli forces took land from Syria, Egypt and Jordan, hoping to create a security buffer zone, and thus changed the whole nature of the Middle East conflict. They also attacked the area that was given to the Palestinians in 1948 and annexed it to Israel ...
There are UN resolutions that ask Israel to give the land back, but they don't want to.Probably it will solve some problems,if the Israelis give back the land, but there will still be many problems left there...

The UK created Israel in 1950 and gave them the land. Eqypt and lebanon attacked israel in 1963 but israel intel let them know before hand. The night before the attack, israel destroyed every eqyptian fighter jet and then israel had the most air power. They were able to pick off the advancing troops easily.
Giving the land back would not solve the problem as the hatred in the region is too great and israel currently need a buffer zone as seen earlier this year when israeli soldiers were kidnapped. I'm all for palestine been given back their country but first their government must recognoise israel and have control over their own borders

In 1967 the Arab countries attacked Israel to wipe it off the map. Israel then proceeded to kick their butts and take land that should be theirs. The Arabs tried again in 1973 and got their butts kicked again. So Israel did not make a mistake, what they did is embarrass a bunch of bigger countries. I guess these countries have still not gotten over being humiliated and getting what they deserved.

They were attacked by several countries at once; captured and held territory of those that attacked. What's the problem with that? They could have annihilated those governments, and there would be no opponents of them; no middle east crisis right now.
