My girlfriend and I have decided to get married next year but don't really have a song to play during our dance in the evening.
I have suggested The Prodigy's Smack My ***** Up or Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls but she's not keen.
Do you a) think she's wrong and I'm right?
b) have any suggestions of your own?

You can't go wrong with "In My Life" by The Beatles or "One Hand,One Heart" from West Side Story (movie version)

there are sooo many to choose from , but this one will let her know where she stands from the beginning....

You know its kind of hard
just to get along today
our subject isn't cool
but he fakes it any way
he may not have a clue
and he may not have style
but everything he lacks
well he makes up in denial

so don't debate,a player straight
you know he really doesn't get it anyway
he's gonna play the field , and keep it real
for you no way, for you no way
so if you don't rate, just overcompensate
at least you'll know you can
always go on Ricki Lake
the world needs wannabe's
so do that brand new thing.........

from Offspring, "Pretty fly (for a white guy)" . what woman can resist that, as it sounds so promising?

Yeah your songs will do down a treat especially if you have a family wedding with Grandma and Grandpa there, I would love too see the looks on all your relatives and friends face playing either of them songs. I think something more romantic like Bryan Adams: everything I do I do it for you. But it you want something with a beat try meatloaf I would do anything for love.

Couple o'mates o mine did love is in the air by John Paul Young. Brill 70's disco, and they choreographed a mad dance. The best man, some specially picked blokes and bridesmaids, all wove their way in at key points in the song. By the end every body was up.

It's best to have oldies like Hawiaan wedding song by Elvis from Blue Hawaii or The Wedding by Julie Rogers, but not the Birdie Song.

My friend had the same problem, we chose Dream a Little Dream by Mama's and Papas in the end I think.
Or go for Whigfield or the Macarena so that you don't have to do the first dance alone. People will feel compelled to join in.

Well, you old romantic, Monkey.

What's her objection? I think they are lovely choices. Is this a precursor of how your married life is going to be - failure to find an agreement over something so fundamental?

As an alternative suggestion - Joe Jackson: Is She Really Going Out With Him!

Have I told you lately that I love you by Van Morrison though you do strike me as the sort to go for Bat out of Hell.

sounds like you want to get your marriage of to a great start. take it from me - never argue with a woman!!! if she's not keen ask her what she wants, leave it a couple of days, then suggest her song as if it were your idea. that way she gets what she wants but you still feel as if it was your choice.

does that sound too patronising...?
