Well, it would seem that Jesus ignored his religious duty of obeying the laws of the Sabbath by healing the lame. Of course thats a load of gumph, but the concept is still the same.

I think it is admirable to do ones duty for the sake of duty, but if it is in conflict with what is a more beneficial action (such as an SS officer ignoring the Jewish family hiding in the attic and hence his duty, and instead performs the more beneficial action of saving their lives by shouting out to his comrades "no Jews up here. All clear"), then duty should be questioned.

After all, you wouldn't tell a serial killer the wherabouts of his victim if he asked you, even though it is your duty to always the truth, would you?
