I heard that an eye can only be a certain size before it would go blind?

The size of the eye would depend on the conditions it lives in. If I was 200 m tall, If my eyes were in proportion, the amount of light that would flood in to my eye ball would make it impossible to see. If I lived in the dark depths of the ocean (like a squid) then my eyes wuld need to be bigger to allow more light in

The giant squid has the largest eyes I think. About the size of a dinner plate.

Not necessarily. Whales have large eyes, as do squid and octopi.

Probably not, look at whales they have massive eyes.
