Just keep your yahoo messenger open and it will make noise when you get new mail.

I'll give you the best bit of advice I can think of , uninstall the toolbar right now and any other toolbars you have , theyre notorious for messing with your computer. Get a version of yahoo messenger , when you have this open it tells you you have an email and makes a sound which you can changem I have a clip from pulp fiction as my email alert.

If you're on messenger you get the sound of a stone being chucked into a pond every time a message come in. I very soon turned my messenger OFF!!!

You can get a sound and a popup when using Yahoo! Messenger though.
