Some say he changed it to 24 for the money. He wore 24 in high school as well as 33 (guess those were his favorite numbers), but he couldn't wear 33 when he joined the Lakers (retired for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and supposedly 24 was taken when he was a rookie. He ended up wearing 8 because it was the sum of his adidas camp number 143 (1+4+3=8).
From Wikipedia:
"Late in the season, it was reported that Bryant would change his jersey number from #8 to #24 at the start of the 2006-07 NBA season. #24 was Bryant's first high school number, before he switched to #33.[3] After the Lakers' season ended, Bryant said on TNT that he wanted #24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was #33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He said the switch to 24 signified the start of the second half of his career."

Jordan is the excellent participant of all time, he no longer basically become a super scorer he set up his different teammates for open photos to strengthen the criteria scored in video games; kobe on the different hand is a ball-hog and lebron? He hasn't even been around long sufficient to rank with kobe and jordan.

Why in the world do people keep asking this stupid question over and over again? And why do they think it matters? Unless you're a superstitious fool who believes in numerology, what number Kobe has on his jersey is about the least important thing anyone should be concerned about with him.

Just like it's been said above.... For the money. So his fans will fork out some more money to buy his new number..... How stupid is that? To force your fans to pay money! As if he and ALL other professional sports athletes don't make enough!
